One crazy dream...
coupled with an inordinate amount of hard work, unbridled passion,
overwhelming moral support, and a healthy amount of imprudence is all
it took to create Villicana Winery from the
ground up, literally.
1990
We discovered Paso Robles, California.
1993
Villicana Winery was established making it one of the first 20 wineries in Paso Robles. There are now over 300.
1996
Alex & Monica Villicana bought 72 acres of unplanted land in the Adelaida Hills of Paso Robles. It had just one 140 sq. ft. structure that we immediately put the sander, hammer, and nails to and added a bedroom and bathroom doubling the size. We stayed at "The Lodge" each weekend for 6 years while we personally planted our vineyard.
1997
Balancing our careers in Southern California with our vineyard dreams, every Friday we embarked on a three-hour journey to Paso Robles to plant and farm our vineyard. We returned to our weekday routines by Monday, albeit with a little dirt under our fingernails. Thanks to the generous help of family and friends who helped us plant the vineyard, our estate flourishes today with a vibrant mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Viognier, and Grenache Blanc grapes. It is Bordeaux meets Rhône.
1999
We bottled our inaugural estate wine, a 1999 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.
2000
We faced a crossroads of either selling the vineyard and calling it a cherished experience, or leaving our great jobs to pursue our crazy dream. We threw caution to the wind and embarked on the journey of turning our winery dream into a reality. Construction on our winery and tasting room began, marking the next phase of our adventure.
2002
After six years of commuting every weekend, we made the move to Paso Robles. We finally opened our Tasting Room and excitedly welcomed guests to share our passion for limited production, high-quality wine, and the pioneering spirit of Paso Robles.
2011
After years of healthy winery expansion, we started Paso Robles' first distillery, Re:Find Distillery, creating an entirely new industry in Paso Robles.
2023
Alex & Monica were voted by their peers as
Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance Wine Industry People of the Year.
Now
We’ve been blessed beyond measure by three decades of harvests and ardent supporters who have helped us turn our dream into a reality.
THANK YOU!
