Tasting Notes:
The Merlot from our estate vineyard is more robust in style than most people expect. We refer to it as the Merlot that drinks like a Cab. It is planted in the lowest section of our vineyard where the soil is the deepest due to the erosion from the rest of our hillside vineyard. We employ a deficit irrigation philosophy in our vineyard, so the Merlot vineyard is the benefactor of the run-off water when it does rain. And, the rain is able to soak deep into our shale soils. This encourages the roots to dig deep, giving the vines more character. We recommend pairing this wine with heavier foods or a warm fire!
